Frequently Asked Questions — Setting Up a Business in Dubai
You do not need to live in Dubai to set up a company. For a Freezone company, registration is fully remote — passport copy, photos and a business description are all that is needed. One brief visit to Dubai (1–2 days) is required for biometric registration and bank account opening. Total processing time: 2–6 weeks.
UAE companies pay 9% corporate income tax on taxable profits above AED 375,000 per year (0% below this threshold). There is no personal income tax, no capital gains tax and no withholding tax on dividends. Qualifying Freezone companies may pay 0% on qualifying income under the QFZP regime.
A Freezone company can be incorporated in 5–10 business days once documents are submitted. Add 2–4 weeks for the investor residence visa (medical, biometrics, Emirates ID) and 2–6 weeks for the bank account. Total from start to fully operational: approximately 4–8 weeks.
Yes. A UAE Freezone company can be formed and operated without a UAE residence visa. The owner does not need to be resident in Dubai to run the company. However, a residence visa is required if you wish to open a personal bank account in the UAE or to qualify as a UAE tax resident (0% personal income tax).
